Gary Jon Edwards, 64, of Westminster, passed away on July 18, 2018, after his year long battle with a cancerous brain tumor. Gary was born June 23, 1954, in Baltimore, Md. to Marcelle Kloek Edwards of Fairfield, Pa.

, and the late Grady H. Edwards. At his time of death he was surrounded by his wife of 33 years, Nancy Armacost Edwards, and 3 children, Scott Alexander (23), Brian Michael (21), and Suzanne Jeanne (17), all of Westminster. Gary graduated from South Carroll High School in 1972, received his A.A from Catonsville Community College in 1974, and received his B.B.A in Business Administration from James Madison University in 1976.

He and Nancy were married on October 20, 1984, in Westminster, Md. Gary was an accomplished distance runner having competed in both high school and college. He even completed several of the J.F.K 50 miler ultra races.

Gary received 2 Most Valuable Runner awards while at Catonsville Community College. After graduation, Gary was mentored and eventually became president of Koontz Concrete in New Windsor, Md. Gary’s interests in concrete construction evolved to his most recent company, Creative Concrete & Resurfacing.

Gary was a lifelong Orioles, Baltimore Colts, and eventually Ravens fan. He participated and sponsored softball teams in Carroll County for many years. In recent years, Gary joined Toastmasters in Loudon County, Va.

and served as president for the local chapter. During his membership, he competed in and won several awards at different levels of speech competition. Gary never made an enemy and was loved by all.

You were fast friends after your initial meeting. Besides his wife, mother, and children, he is survived by his brother Craig Edwards and wife Susan of Bend, Or. , sister Carol Kitzmiller and husband Kevin of Westminster, sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws Rev.

Bernard Jr. and Carolyn Armacost, Doris and Greg Hare, Mary and Steve Hayes, and Ruth and Craig Schuler. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Gary was predeceased by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alta and Bernard Armacost, his nephew Andy Hayes, and niece Izora Armacost.

Memorial services will be held on Sat. August 25, 2018, at 11:00 a.m at Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ, 2950 Old Taneytown Rd. , Westminster, with Pastor Rev.

Jeffry Dull officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Emmanuel Baust United Church of Christ, Carroll Hospice, or to GoFundMe: Gary Edwards Battle with Cancer.
