Obituary for Genevieve Savani (Zucco) Genevieve (Zucco) Savani, 98, longtime resident of North Huntingdon, died Thurs. , June 7, 2018, in hospice at Villa Riviera, Santa Barbara, CA. Born in Biddle on July 29, 1919, the daughter of the late James and Giovanna (Argenta) Zucco, she graduated from Norwin High School, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Pittsburgh.
Having begun her career teaching at Trafford Elementary School, Savani served the Norwin School District for almost 30 years, first as teacher and principal and then as school psychologist. She also taught graduate evening psychology courses at Pennsylvania State University. Genevieve served two terms as secretary of the Pennsylvania State Psychological Association.
Formerly a member of the Association of Children with Learning Disabilities and the North Huntingdon Youth Commissions, she also belonged to the Manor American Legion Auxiliary Post 472 and AARP. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church community in Irwin. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Savani (who died Dec.
18, 1996); brothers Lewis, Dan, and Elmer; and sisters Mary Zucco, Mabel Furlin, Flora Marchetti, and Angeline Labor. She is survived by a daughter Jacquelyn Savani and sons Louis Jr. and James Savani, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a brother James Zucco, as well as many nieces and nephews. Arrangements include viewing at Ott Funeral Home, 805 Pennsylvania Ave.
, Irwin, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wed. , June 20. Parting prayers will be held Thursday 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin.
