Obituary for George “Bud” Schlater George “Bud” Schlater 79, of Silva, MO, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau, MO. He was born in Wayne County, MO, September 23, 1939 to parents Newt and Opal (Sawyer) Schlater. Bud was a lifelong resident of Wayne County.

He graduated from Patterson High School. On May 18, 1963 he married Shirley Stevenson and to this union two children were born. Bud was a loving father and grandfather.

In addition to farming, he also worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Maintenance. In his younger years, he enjoyed the outdoors, walking in the creeks and streams. He loved to travel, visiting almost every state, however, the Rocky Mountains was his favorite vacation spot.

Bud enjoyed fishing and camping and took pride in teaching his children and grandchildren to love the outdoors. He was very fond of taking his grandsons, Jacob, Justin and CJ fishing at Montauk State Park as the boys would helped Bud cast his pole, reel in his fish and clean them as well. He loved to tell stories and was a vivid, animated story teller.

Bud was a Christian and former Sunday School Superintendent at Patterson Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son: Bruce Lindell Schlater; one brother: Elton Schlater; two sisters: Catherine Eldridge and Ruth Sterling. He is survived by his companion and best friend, Shirley; daughter: Amy Rusk and husband Doug of Salem, MO; grandchildren: Jacob and Justin Rusk of Salem, MO, Amanda and Charles “CJ” Schlater of Columbia, MO; sister: Carolyn Steed and husband Don of Columbia, IL.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 23, 2018, from 5:30 pm, at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont, MO. Services were held Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at 1:00 pm, also at the funeral home chapel. Pastor Richard Sanders ministered to the family.

Jacob Rusk, Justin Rusk, Charles Schlater, Brad Schlater, Dale Schlater, Lonnie Eldridge and Jerry Eldridge served as pallbearers. Burial followed at Patterson Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.
