Obituary for George Douglas Poole Appalachia, Virginia George Douglas Poole, 92, of Appalachia passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Heritage Hall in Big Stone Gap after a brief illness. Douglas was born to Worley and Venus Poole on October 2, 1925 in Crackers Neck. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Maxwell Poole on October 14, 2016 and by his brothers and sisters; Nellie, Axley, Oscar, Claude, Carson, Christie, Elizabeth, and Laura Lou.

Douglas was retired from Westmoreland Coal Co He attended Heritage Church of God in Big Stone Gap. Douglas served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his stepdaughter, Karen and her husband Robin Dotson of Wise; grandchildren, Matthew and wife Jamie Dotson and Sarah Dotson, all of Wise; daughter Norma Jean Coleman and son Jimmy Ray Poole of Ohio; brother, Bobby Poole and sister Paralee Poole, both of Big Stone Gap; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon to 1 pm at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home in Appalachia. A graveside service will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens at 1:30 with Rev.

Ronnie Mutter officiating. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia, is in charge of arrangements.
