George L. Charpia, 83, widower of Delores G. Charpia, of Summerville, SC, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018. Graveside Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 3, 2018 at Boone Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery at 11 o’clock. Visitation will be at Parks Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6 – 8 o’clock.

Flowers will be accepted. George was born December 2, 1934, a son of Harry Martin Charpia and Mary Louis Rickenbacker Charpia. George was a Summerville native and graduate of Summerville High School.

He was a retiree of the Charleston Naval Shipyard, Shop 06. He was a long-time member of Boone Hill United Methodist Church as well as Jedburg Baptist Church. He was a strong and independent man who was full of life.

He believed in hard work and telling it like it is. He had a can-do attitude and strove to instill a sense of self-reliance in his children and grandchildren. He imparted many valuable life lessons to his family members that will carry on throughout their lifetime.

He was never afraid to roll up his sleeves and do what it took to get the job done. He also believed in taking pleasure in life and knew it was important to enjoy other activities besides working. In his younger years, he enjoyed Quarter Horse racing and owned several winning horses that brought him joy.

He was an excellent swimmer and loved spending time at Folly Beach as well as Myrtle Beach. He loved Hershey’s Chocolate and a cold Pepsi. He was a life-long music enthusiast and loved to whistle and sing.

He also loved riding his Harley-Davidson. He will be missed. George is survived by his three sons, Doyle Charpia of Summerville, Donald (Mike) Charpia of Mount Pleasant, Derek Charpia (Myrtle) Charpia of Summerville; two granddaughters, Hillary Walsh, Julia Charpia; one grandson, Devin Charpia; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Delores G. Charpia and his son, Greg Charpia. Arrangements by Parks Funeral Home, 130 W. 1st North Street, Summerville, SC 29483. www.
