Obituary for Helen Marion Wasko Helen Marion Wasko, age 103, of Summerville, South Carolina and Bayonne, NJ, wife of the late Sigmund John Wasko, passed away on October 23, 2018, with her daughter, Dianne at her side. Mrs. Wasko was born on July 15, 1915, in Bayonne, NJ, a daughter of the late John and Mary Danko. On May 23rd, 1942, she married Sigmund J. Wasko.

They were married for 42 years, and had four daughters. Mr. Wasko passed away in 1984. The name, “Helen,” means” the Light of Life,” which shone radiantly when Helen smiled.

She was a most loving and nurturing person. Helen’s pride and joy were always her four daughters and their families. Her love for her family was reflected in EVERYTHING that she did, including sewing, cooking, baking, babysitting her grandchildren, and always sending out the perfect greeting card, up to the day before she passed.

She was a woman of passion and loyalty for all her family. She displayed a feisty courage and hope throughout her life. A retired seamstress, she loved her independence, and before she broke her hip, she walked just about everywhere— to the library, her church, and the supermarket.

She was beholding to no one, and was a role model for all of her loved ones. Her many acts of strength and kindness, whether toward her family or strangers, will live on in her blessed family for many years to come…She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her four daughters, Carolyn Hallenbake of Somerset, NJ; Dr. Dianne (Michael) Kochamba of Summerville, SC; Arlene (Dr. Lance) Peterson of Ballston Spa, NY; Susan (Frederick) Szeles of Middle, NJ; twelve grandchildren, Marc (Kim) Kochamba; David (Heather) Kochamba; Darryl Hallenbake; Jason Hallenbake; Christopher (Rachael) Peterson; Kerry (Lori) Peterson; Kurtis Peterson (fiancée Alison Braca); Craig Peterson; Lori Szeles (Paul) Poulson; Cheryl (Stephen) Hawthorn; Dr. Julie (Dr. David) Colella; Sandra (Matt) Kennedy.

She was pre-deceased by a grandson, Eric Hallenbake, and son-in-law, Warren Hallenbake. She is also survived by 13 great- grandchildren, Andrew, Allison, Anna Grace and Ashleigh Kochamba; Carolina Poulson; Tavis Hawthorn; David “Asher” Kochamba; Asher and Teddy Peterson; Nora and Jack Peterson; and Max and Sam Colella.
