Obituary for Gerald A. Berger Gerald Alfred Berger born April 10, 1930 to Alfred and Gertrude Berger in Detroit, MI. , passed away at home surrounded by family in Saline, MI. on April 26, 2018.
Gerald was honorably discharged in 1954 from the Army after three years working as a chef. He then worked as a meat cutter for Kroger, retiring after 42 years. Gerald continued as a meat cutter for his family farm, raising their own cattle.
Gerald and his two brothers assisted with and ran the family farm after their mother’s passing, they even self-built the family homes. The 135 acre land was purchased by their mother in 1969. Gerald married the love of his life Catherine J. Schindler on April 24, 1954 at Prince of Peace Church in Wayne, MI.
and had four children. In his spare time Gerald taught a 4H class, he was a part of the Coin Club, the American Legion in Saline, MI. where he stood as president for a few years, assisted with military honors and 21 Guns Salute for various holidays.
He enjoyed wood working, making toys for his family and children overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. Gerald is survived by his wife Catherine J. Berger, three children; Robert (Karla) Berger, Barry (Sharon) Berger, and Joyce (Wayne) Terry, his grandchildren; David (Whittney) Berger, Savannah Berger, Chelsea and Shelbey Terry, and great grandchildren; David Jr. and Emerson Berger, and Lilly Terry. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Gertrude Berger and his son Tim Berger.
