Gerald A. Drake, 94, of Belpre died March 13, 2019 at the Nursing Home in Muskingum Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation. Gerald was born on September 14, 1924 in Beckett, Ohio, the son of the late Chester and Ida Drake. He was a graduate of Waterford High School and Ohio University.

He worked in education for 35 years as a teacher, coach and Driver Education Instructor. Twenty-five of those years were in the Warren School District. He served in the United States Army in World War II.

He was in Leyte, Philippines, Okinawa and Korea. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 40 years and the Scottish Rites Valley of Cambridge. He was an active member of the Veto Presbyterian Church as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher.

He had also attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Vienna. Gerald is survived by his loving wife, of 72 years, married June 15, 1947, “Katie” Kathryn Hunter Drake; three daughters Sandra Cassidy, Vincent, Melanie Gilliand (Ronnie), Vincent, and Marsha Jarvis (Charles), Cutler; grandchildren Rob Gilliand (Danielle), Karie Huck, Ryan Gilliand (Jamie), Jeremy Jarvis (Jessica), Julie Baker (Nick) and Jason Jarvis (Brittany), 19 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Glenn and Donald Drake.

The family would like to thank Dr. Lloyd Dennis, Dr. Kenneth Leopold, Buckey Hospice and Belpre Landing Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation for their care. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 16, 2019, 1:00 pm at the Leavitt Funeral Home Belpre, with Pastor Bill Dunfee officiating. Burial will follow at Veto Cemetery.
