Obituary for Giuseppe “Joseph” P. Becallo Giuseppe “Joseph” Paul Becallo, 88, of Warners, passed peacefully Monday at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Frankfurt, NY and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He was a first generation Italian-American.
Joseph was a four year veteran of the Army National Guard and was a radio technician. In 1952, Joseph and Florence (DeFazio) Becallo wed in Brooklyn, NY. Joseph opened an insurance business in New Jersey, and then moved to Upstate New York where he was a Director of Housekeeping at both Samaritan and St. Joseph’s Hospitals.
In 1984, he started his own janitorial business and retired in 2009. His favorite pastime was attending and watching New York Yankees games, and his favorite player was Joe DiMaggio. Joseph is predeceased by his siblings: Carmella Chester, Ann Dunlavy, Nancy Schneider and Dan Becallo.
Survivors: His wife of 66 years, the former Florence DeFazio; son, Paul Becallo (RoseMary); daughters, Catherine Becallo Smith (Harold), Grace LaValle (Santo), Frances Becallo Hradil and Christina Stearns (William); sisters, Angela Rizzo (John) and Ruth Dorian; brother, Frank Becallo (Maria); grandchildren: Laura Becallo Cashin, Michael Becallo, LeAnn Smith, Marisa Bertini, Jaime White, Giana LaValle, Nicholas LaValle, Anthony LaValle, Elizabeth Hradil, Alec Stearns, Dayna Stearns; and great grandchildren Brian Cashin III, Chloe Cashin, Ethan Bertini, Elisa Bertini, Evan Zirat, and Ari Contero. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday at BAGOZZI TWINS FUNERAL HOME. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Onondaga County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Onondaga Hill.
