Glenda West Tackett Zick March 7, 1947 – February 23, 2019 Glenda West Tackett Zick, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, was led home by her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 23rd, 2019, at her home in Many, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family after a long, determined battle with terminal illness. Glenda was born on March 7th, 1947, in Monahans, Texas, to Nathan Ostel West & Lelie Corine Masters West.

After losing her parents at a young age, Glenda and her sister, Barbara, moved to Many, where they were adopted by cousins, Dr. L.O. & Janie Tackett. She spent the remainder of her childhood in Many, and graduated from Many High School in 1965. While completing her B.S. in Dietetics & Institutional Management from Northwestern State University, she was actively involved in Delta Zeta sorority.

After completing her degree, however, she decided her true calling was education; she returned to receive a teaching certification in elementary education. For almost 30 years, Glenda taught kindergarten at several schools in Sabine parish, including Many Elementary, Zwolle High School & Negreet High School. Glenda was also a member at First United Methodist Church in Many, LA.

She was an active member in the community, donating her time and talents to anyone in need, always eager to undertake a new project. She also volunteered in the preschool at Methodist Church, along with various other local clubs and organizations. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, gardening, sewing, traveling, entertaining and decorating.

Additionally, she was lovingly called Aunt Ginny by a host of young people who were brought into her life through her daughters, neighbors, family and friends. Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Morgan Zick; her birth parents: father, Nathan Ostel West, and mother, Lelie Corine Masters West; her adopted parents: father, Dr. L.O. Tackett, and mother, Jannie Johnson Tackett; her sister, Barbara Ann Brown; along with her fraternal and maternal grandparents. She is survived by her two daughters, Krista Zick Winfree of Deville, Louisiana, and Kerri DeLane Zick, of Houston, Texas; five grandsons: Jacob Shane Beasley, Brian Malcom Winfree, Jonah Aaron Beasley, Brett Matthew Winfree and Brody James Winfree; three granddaughters: Morgan Beasley Atwood, Lelia Beasley Grimm and Brianna Lauren Winfree; three great granddaughters: Macie Kay Grimm, Ava Camille Atwood and Katherine Lanell Atwood; and one great grandson, Rafe Bradley Grimm.

Glenda is also survived by her two sisters: Bashie Sue Waggoner, and husband, Maurice Waggoner; and Pamela Ann Curtis, and husband, John Curtis, Sr. Serving as pallbearers are: Jacob Beasley, Jonah Beasley, John Curtis, Jr., Moses Curtis, Thomas Freeman, Brett Heil and William Tynes. Honorary pallbearers are: Jared Atwood, Justin Grimm, Brett Winfree, Brody Winfree, Jess Curtis and Jason Fluitt. Services for Mrs. Zick will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Many, Louisiana, on Tuesday, February 26th, 2019, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 25th, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many, Louisiana. Officiating will be Bro. Ray Spiller of First United Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.
