Granville “Grant” Goolsby, Jr. “Uncle Sonny”,age 86, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Joliet Area Community Hospice. He now joins his wife who preceded him in death in April of this year. Survived by his son Granville “Grant” P. (Terri Jessen) Goolsby III; grandson Ryan M. (Catherine) Goolsby; great-grandchildren Isabella, Jenna, Kyliegh, Caitlin and Meghan; grandson Kirk A. (Irene) Goolsby; great grandchildren Karina and Kirk Jr.; grandson Grant N. (Amy) Goolsby; great grandchildren Lainey, Cole and Carter; great-great grandchild Jaxon Michael Spignor; son Robert G. (Ann Meyers); granddaughters Kathryn Goolsby; great grandson Lochlain Hyland Goolsby; and granddaughter Carol (Dave) Michalski; daughter Peggy Ann (Joseph J.) Parthun; grandson James J. (Kerri) Parthun; great grandchild Zachary J. Parthun; grandson Daniel M. (Karissa) Parthun; great grandchild Ruth Louise Parthun; daughter Sally Ann (Jeffrey) Seeger; grandson Jeffrey Maxwell (Emily) Seeger and granddaughter Charlene Rose Marie Seeger; three sisters-in-law Mary Goolsby, Judith (Mike) Buell; and Thelma Rhind.

Several nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Joan R. (Rhind) Goolsby, his parents Granville “Grant” Goolsby Sr. and Lexie (Wilkenson) Goolsby; three sisters Juanita, Wanda and Shirley and one brother William Goolsby. Born in Joliet, a Joliet resident most of his life.

Joan and Grant enjoyed retirement in Lake Wildwood, before returning to the Joliet Area. Grant owned and operated Joliet Butter Co. for over 40 years. Retired from KEHE Foods at the age of 72.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was an avid Master Gardener in the Illinois Extension Office in Henry. Member of the Putnam Christian Church in Putnam, Illinois.

He enjoyed many activities with friends and family. Grant and Joan enjoyed their time at Senior Star. His family will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home. Visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorial to the Joliet Area Community Hospice or Putnam Christian Church in Putnam, Illinois. A special thank you to Joliet Area Community Hospice nurses and staff and to the staff at Rosewood Care Center for their excellent care of Grant.
