Gustaf’s Obituary Remsen- Gustaf A. Johnson III, 63, of Middle Road passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. He was born in Utica on January 24, 1955 a son of Gustaf A. and Elizabeth Ebert Johnson. He grew up in Prospect and graduated from Holland Patent High School.

He married Carlene Roberts June 30, 1979 in Holland Patent. Gus was employed at Strandflex for 30 years until it closed. He then went to Herkimer County Community College and graduated in 2008 with a degree in computer science.

More recently he was employed at Remsen Central School as a bus driver, monitor and study hall monitor. He was a 42 year member of Boonville Elks Club, Stueben Fish & Game Club, and many years ago the Prospect Fire Department. He enjoyed shooting his gun, camping, the outdoors and especially his family.

Surviving are his wife Carlene, three daughters and sons-in-law, Johanna and Justin Torres, Meghan and Mike Spadaro and Justine and Pete Manning; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Gabe, Cadence, Madison, Max and Carter; one great grandson, Ian; mother-in-law, Helen Roberts and a sister, Betty and Ron Paschke. He was predeceased by his parents and a father-in-law, Carl Roberts. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 3 p.m. at the Ackley-Mills Funeral Home, 9597 Main Street, Remsen.

Calling hours will be held 1-3 p.m. prior the service. Please feel free to dress casual. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Remsen Fire Department or the Steuben Fish & Game Club.
