MILLER Jr., Harold J. (Ret. RISP), 80, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, son of the late Harold and Edelia (Marini) Miller.

Harold was a graduate of Tolman High School and Bryant University. Harold served in the US Navy from 1957 through 1959, assigned to Helicopter Squadron # 9, where he was appointed to welcome King Boudin of Jordan to the United States. Following his discharge from the Navy Harold was a member of the Rhode Island State Police serving from 1960 to 1980, having the honor during his tenure of meeting three US presidents and Pope Paul II.

Upon retiring as a lieutenant, he became chief of security at the Warwick Mall from 1980 thru 1994. During this time Harold was elected to the Rhode Island State Senate in 1983 and served thru 1994. Harold then retired to Delray Beach, Florida to enjoy thoroughbred racing, golfing and fishing.

Harold continued to return to Rhode Island during the summer months where he enjoyed time with his daughters as well as sharing time with friends at Triggs Country Club. Harold is survived by his daughters Patricia Miller of Florida, Michaeleen Miller of Washington State, and Allison Miller of Warwick, Rhode Island. His brother Edward Miller, wife Karen of Missouri.

A sister, Carolyn Albright, husband Craig of Tennessee and a sister Dorothy Barrett her husband Philip and their daughter Lisa with whom he resided and was cared for during his illness. Harold was preceded in death by his brother Donald W Miller. He also leaves behind three stepchildren, Karen Frost, Linda Foss and Sandra Spaziano, three step grandchildren, nieces and nephews and dear friend Elizabeth Meade.

His giant smile and winning personality will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. His Funeral will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 7:45 am from the IANNOTTI Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte. 117), Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in SS.

John & Paul Church, Coventry. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make donations in Harold’s memory to Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Boulevard, East Providence, or to a charity of their choice.
