Obituary for Helen Catherine Weinzapfel Helen Catherine (Folz) Weinzapfel, 85, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at her home. Helen was born May 1, 1933 in Mt. Vernon, IN to the late Andrew and Otillia (Wannemuehler) Folz.
She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society and St. Boniface Catholic Church. Helen was inducted into the Brute Society of the Diocese of Evansville for her service to the church. Helen’s family was very important to her and she loved her husband, children and grandchildren dearly.
She enjoyed decorating for holidays, quilting and her flowers. Surviving Helen are her husband of 66 years, Jerome “Jerry” Weinzapfel; four daughters, Cindy (Steve) Elliott, Kathy (Dan) Armstrong, Vicki (Jim) Austin and Toni Weinzapfel, all of Evansville; sisters, Martha (Jim) Scheller of Evansville; Mary Ann (Bob) Weinzapfel of Mt. Vernon, IN and Sr. Dolores Folz, O.S.B. of Ferdinand, IN; brothers, Frank (Rosie) Folz of Evansville; Henry “Hank” (Sherry) Folz and Jim (Karen) Folz, both of Mt.
Vernon; 13 grandchildren, Scott (Kathryn) Elliott, Natalie (Nick) Lindy, Craig (Jessica) Elliott, Drew Elliott, Daniel Armstrong, Christian Armstrong, Chris (Taylor) Austin, Nick Austin, Haley (Jared) Droste, Lauren (Ted) Rutherford, Cody (Mary Ann) Brandenstein, Weston Brandenstein and Dalton Brandenstein and fifteen great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two sisters, Karen Folz and Edna Schenk and by brothers, Steve and Richard Folz. There will be a mass of Christian burial held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rev.
John Brosmer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 4:00 PM.
Friends may also visit with the family from 10:30 AM until service time on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Benedict, St. Boniface Catholic Church or to Mater Dei High School. Condolences may be made online at www.
