Helen Elizabeth Scott, 96, wife of the late Joe John Scott, died Wednesday, January 2, 2019, after an illness. Mrs. Scott was born on July 18, 1922 in Scranton, SC, daughter of the late James Benjamin Powell and Sarah Salley Parker Powell. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Surviving are her son, James Edward (Linda) Scott of Hartsville; daughter, Barbara Jean Thomas (Floyd) Lewis of Lake City; grandchildren, Wendy Perkins, Gregg Scott, Tony Thomas and Gloria Welch; great grandchildren, J. J. Perkins, April (Bran) Tisdale, Reba Thomas and Carmie Thomas; great-great grandchildren, Jazmyn Perkins, Braelyn Tisdale, Lillian Toro and Tobias Horne; sister, Louise Welch; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Thomas; two young siblings, along with other siblings, Horace Powell, Kenny Powell, Carrie McElveen, Betty Smoak and Valerie Gurganeous. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Carolina Funeral Home Chapel, Scranton, with burial to follow at Lake City Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
