Berdinka, age 96, of Ocean View, DE formerly of Dover, DE passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at her home. She was born in Canoe, AL on June 25, 1922 daughter of the late Simon and Alyne (Lowrey) Wilson. Helen worked as a civil servant for the United States Air Force before her retirement in 1975.

She enjoyed metal detecting, crocheting, knitting, going to the casino and reading mystery novels. Helen was a southern girl at heart and enjoyed good food, watching NASCAR and was a fan of her home state of Alabama. She and her husband, Marty enjoyed square dancing and she kept her mind sharp completing crossword puzzles and cryptograms.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Julius “Marty” Berdinka and a brother, Frank Wilson. She is survived by three sons, Stanly Berdinka of St. George, UT, Mitchell Berdinka and his wife, Carol of Olympia, WA and Michael Berdinka and his wife, Janie of Elkton, MD; a daughter, Helen Patricia Salzmann of Ocean View, DE; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd.

, Ocean View, DE 19970, where friends and family may call after 10 AM. Interment will be private at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Helen’s name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
