Mrs. Helen Vivian Sutphin, 102, passed away Sunday morning, December 2, 2018, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon. She was born September 28, 1916, in Whitestown, Indiana, a daughter of the late Alva E. and Esther M. (Hoffman) West. Helen was a 1934 graduate of Whitestown High School.

On October 15, 1937, she was married to Harrell B. Sutphin in Whitestown, Indiana. Harrell passed away in 1987. In her early years she taught Sunday school for kindergarten and sang in the church choir 40 plus years at Crooked Creek Baptist Church in Indianapolis.

Helen was a wonderful seamstress, including making her daughter’s wedding dress and the entire wedding party clothes. Helen’s hobbies included bowling, baking, cooking, and raising beautiful flower gardens. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her many cats and dogs and cherished her family dearly.

Survivors include: Son: Nick (Marie) Sutphin of Lebanon Daughter: Janet (George P. Koch, Jr.) of Richmond, Virginia. Daughter-In-Law: Dee Sutphin of Avon, Indiana Four Grandchildren: Angela (Gary) Moody of Thorntown Eric (Michelle) Sutphin of Columbus, Ohio Keith (Lori) Sutphin of Avon, Indiana Kari (Doug) Weist of Plainfield, Indiana Eight Great Grandchildren Sister: Norma Book of Muncie, Indiana Four Nieces and Nephews In addition to her parents and her husband, Helen was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Cathy Sutphin; one sister and two brother-in-laws, Virginia and Maurice Bradley, Joe Book. Funeral Services are planned for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana.

Visitation will held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home in Lebanon. Interment will follow services at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown. Memorials may be made in her memory to Humane Society for Boone County P. O. Box 708, Lebanon, Indiana 46052 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
