Helena Mary Lightel of Rockwall, TX died peacefully on her 99th birthday, Saturday, April 28, 2018 at her daughter’s residence in Monrovia, MD. Born April 28, 1919 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late William and Bertha Elizabeth (Thompson) Hammel. She was the wife of the late Jerome Joseph Lightel.

She is survived by daughters, Joan Scheck and husband Pastor Ray Scheck of Monrovia, MD, and Nancy Lightel of Washington, D.C.; sister, Eleanor MacDonald of Ohio; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sons, Jerome and Tommy Lightel; daughter, Helena Wilson; brother, William Hammel; and sister, Liliana Foreman. The family is being assisted by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Westminster, MD and by Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall, TX.

Funeral services will be held in Texas and will be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Helena’s name may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1305 Damascus Rd. , Rockwall, TX 75087.
