Dieter Beger June 8, 1939 – March 11, 2019 Horst Dieter Beger died peacefully at home after a long battle with Leukemia, and very short-term Hospice care. God answered Dieter’s prayer to go quickly, and Cindy’s prayer Dieter would die peacefully at home. Dieter was a Christian.
He stepped into Eternity with Jesus as his solid rock. Dieter was born in Erfurt, Germany. He and his family survived the bombings of Erfurt near the end of World War II.
He endured communism in East Germany until the Beger Team (Dieter’s Oma, Mutti, and the Brothers – Peter, Volker and Dieter) escaped to West Germany in 1954. Dieter married Jutta, and their children Marion and Thorsten were born in Germany before immigrating to the US. An engineering position brought Dieter and family to Utah.
Dieter and Jutta were later divorced, a very painful and difficult time for Dieter, but they have remained friends. August 24th 1979 Cindy Warner, “the love of Dieter’s life”, became Cindy Beger. That love relationship has lasted over 40 years.
Dieter was captivated, at first glance, by the snowcapped mountains of Utah. That led to a lifetime passion for skiing, ski patrolling and ski teaching. He patrolled at Nordic Valley, Powder Mt.
, and Snowbasin, and taught skiing at Nordic Valley, Deer Valley and Snowbasin. Cindy and Dieter met on a chair lift while skiing at Nordic Valley Ski Resort in 1978. Skiing was one of their shared passions.
Dieter’s work world was Mechanical / Structural Engineering, and Technical Project Management. His last job with Morton/Autoliv took us back to Germany where Dieter was in charge of setting up Technical Centers for the development and testing of airbags. His time with Autoliv in Utah, was as European Programs manager.
He was a thoughtful and capable manager, and well respected. Dieter was very proud of his Air Force Reserve Service and his Civil Air Patrol (CAP) affiliation. He especially enjoyed duty time spent with US and NATO Cadets.
He maintained his CAP membership throughout his lifetime. He attained the rank of Captain in the USAF Reserve, and Lt. Colonel in the CAP.
Some of Dieter’s many enjoyments in life besides skiing were: hiking, biking, European travel, conversations with the Baristas at Drew’s coffee shop, and creating memorable meals and gatherings for friends and family. Dieter is survived by wife, Cindy Beger; daughter, Marion Jensen; son, Thorsten Beger; granddaughter, Katya Beger, and great grandson, Kanstin. He is survived by his brother Volker & his wife Gaby Beger as well as nieces, nephews and cousins who reside in Germany.
The Celebration of Dieter’s Life will take place at Washington Heights Church, Saturday March 23rd, 5:30 PM, 1770 E 6200 S, Ogden, UT 84405. Please bring notes of remembrance, or thoughts to share. Memory booklets will provide at the Celebration, so whoever would like to, can write a note, or place a note of remembrance in a Memory booklet.
