Basso, Irene Catherine Mondulick Basso, age 71, of Stratford, passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord on Thursday April 26, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. Irene was born on April 23, 1947 in Bridgeport to the late Michael E. and Stella Dobitas Mondulick. She was a lifelong resident of Stratford and a 1965 graduate of Stratford High School.

She traveled widely over a 22 year career as a proud U.S. Army spouse. Irene was blessed with the most beautiful blue eyes that always sparkled. She was a beloved mother and loving wife.

She was a quiet and gentle person who deeply loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crafts, reading and sitting in the backyard under the shade of her old maple tree admiring the flower garden. Irene is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Richard; one son, Michael Basso and wife Un Chu of Richmond, VA with their two sons, Matthew and Gino; one daughter, Julie-Ann Puzzo and husband Anthony of Stratford with their children, Isabella, Mikaela and Dominic; one sister Bernadine Sperry and husband Frank of Stratford with their one son, Frank III; two brothers, Edward Mondulick of Fredericksburg, VA and Kenneth Mondulick and wife Lorraine of Bradenton, FL; brother-in-law, Mark Basso and wife Jennifer of Stratford and several nieces and nephews: Teresa Grancorvitz and Carol Meyer of Virginia, Michael Mondulick Jr. of California, Laura Mondulick of Jackson Beach FL, Mary Kate and Ann Marie Mondulick of Connecticut, Jason Basso of Summit, New Jersey, Marisa Guglielmoni of Trumbull.

In addition to her beloved parents, Irene was also pre-deceased by her brothers Michael and Thomas; one niece, Elizabeth Carvalho and sisters-in-law, Patricia Basso and Paula Mondulick. Friends may call at the Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street Stratford on Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Interment will be private and at the convince of the family.
