Obituary for Irene L. (Selke) VanKirk GREENFIELD – Irene Luella (Selke) VanKirk, age 89, of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born on October 28, 1928 in Ripley County as the daughter of Elmer John Henry and Edna Anna Minnie (Cutter) Selke. She graduated from Napoleon High School.

Irene married Charles Merle VanKirk on June 25, 1949 in Milan, IN. She was a homemaker and a loving mother. Irene was a member of the Hancock County Homemakers Extension Club for 54 years.

She enjoyed doing arts and crafts and watching her grandchildren participate in various activities. Irene is survived by her sons, Larry (Marcy) VanKirk of Fountaintown and Bill VanKirk of Wyoming; brothers, Floyd (Linda) Selke of Fairland and Paul (Judith) Selke of Indianapolis; sister, Doris Selke of Greenfield; and grandchildren, Allison and Matthew. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John VanKirk; and brothers, Lloyd Selke, Louis Selke, and Ernest Selke.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the mortuary.

Reverend Woody Thompson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Memorial contributions may be made by mail to Hancock County Extension Homemakers, 802 North Apple Street, Greenfield, IN 46140 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
