Jack Curtis Price Jack Curtis Price died peacefully in his home surrounded by his children on July 20, 2018. He was 89 years old. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and a devoted friend and countryman.
Jack was born on April 13, 1929 to Orville and Hazel Price in Searsboro, Iowa. Jack joined the U.S. Air Force one week after it became a separate service from the Army. In 1953, while stationed at Deep Creek AFB near Spokane Washington, he met and married his sweetheart Gretchen Virginia Canning.
In 1954 Jack and Gretchen moved to Clearfield Utah and he began his civilian career at Hill AFB as a teletype repairman. His natural ability for leadership and his love of the Air Force mission allowed him to quickly move into supervisory then management positions in his career. In 1988 Jack retired from the Hill Air Force Base as Deputy Director of Distribution after 42 years of service so he could dedicate the next two years serving as national president of the Air Force Association.
During that two years Jack and Gretchen traveled extensively around the world promoting the Air Force mission and Hill AFB. He served as Air Force Association chairman of the board, president of the Aerospace Education Foundation, and a member of the Air Force Association executive committee. He was a founding trustee for the Air Force Memorial Foundation and was instrumental in orchestrating the building of the Air Force Memorial in Washington D.C.
He also served as the vice chairman for the Aerospace Heritage Foundation of Utah, the Hill Air Force Base Museum and was an aerospace consultant for several companies across the country. Jack loved a good fishing trip and he spent many days fishing with friends and family at his favorite fishing spot Flaming Gorge. Much to the delight of his grandchildren, Jack could and would stand on his head for them.
Jack was a great leader and example to his family and community. He is survived by his children Michael Price (wife Bernadette), Bremerton Washington, Carol Vigil (husband Clodie), Eden, Utah, Daryl Price (wife Norma), McAllen Texas, Dennis Price (wife Dorothy), West Haven Utah and Curtis Price (wife Kathleen), Salt Lake City, Utah. He has 22 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters Merilee Ritter, Linda Surbrook, Carol Hayton, and his brother Ronnie Price He is preceded in death by his devoted wife Gretchen, his father, mother, and brothers Robert Price and Howard Price. A viewing will be held on Friday 27 July 2018 at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd from 6 to 8 P. M. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday 28 July 2018 at the Hill Aerospace Museum Chapel at 11 A.M. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Roni West, Angie Silsby, and MaryAnn Hardy for their loving care of our father.
