Obituary of Jacqueline Mathias Jacqueline Paige Hancock Mathias,79, of Stockton, MD, triumphantly joined her Savior in heaven on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, while visiting Beaver Dam, WI. Born on January 31, 1939 in Stockton, MD, she was the youngest of four daughters born to the late Maurice W. and Mabel E. Allen Hancock. Jackie was a gifted singer and musician.
She used her gifts to glorify God and serve others all her life. Starting as young girl, she sang at weddings and church events throughout the Eastern Shore, performed in numerous shows at the Mar-Va Theater in Pocomoke City and performed on WBOC Radio. Her vocal talent performance helped her win the title of Miss Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1959.
She graduated from Pocomoke High School in 1957 and obtained an Associate Degree from Goldey-Beacom College. She was happily married to her lifelong love, Ralph S. Mathias, Jr She was a devoted wife and mother and raised 3 daughters in Stockton, MD.
She loved her church family dearly and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Girdletree, MD. She faithfully played piano, sang, and served as Assistant Music Director and a Sunday School Teacher for over 40 years. Faith and family were the focus of her life.
She is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Ruth Mathias of Stockton, MD, Dr. Andrea Mathias Schmucki and her husband Robert of Snow Hill, MD, and Rebecca Leigh Schmucki and her husband Jakob of Beaver Dam, WI; six grandsons, Joshua, Kaleb, Aaron, Seth, Ben, and Jakob Schmucki; two sisters, Jean Hancock Beauchamp and Faye Hancock Thornes and her husband Hank of Stockton, MD. In addition to her parents, Jacqueline was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 49 years, Ralph S. Mathias, Jr. in 2009; an infant sister, Phyllis E. Hancock and her brother-in-law, Ralph Beauchamp. A funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Keith Horner and held on Sunday October 14, 2018 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Girdletree, 5912 Taylor Road, in Girdletree, MD.
Family and friends may gather there for a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Portersville Cemetery in Stockton, MD. Following the graveside service, a reception will be held at the Girdletree Volunteer Fire Department.
