Obituary for James C. “Jake” Davis Odessa – James C. (Jake) Davis, 97, passed on to be with his Lord Jesus Christ at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa on Saturday, October 13, 2018. He was born August 11, 1921 in Fisher County, Texas, the son of Clayton Charles and Gaily Faith Parker Davis. Jake graduated from Sylvester High School and attended McMurry College in Abilene, Texas before marrying his loving wife, Lula Mae Hail on April 5, 1941.

Joining the U.S. Army during World War II, Jake was serving in Germany when the war ended. He then returned home to his loving wife, Lula Mae, and young family, eventually moving to Odessa, Texas, where he worked in the oil field and owned and operated Basin Body Works, an auto paint and body shop. Jake also taught Auto Paint and Body Vocational Training at Ector High School for several years, where he loved working with young students.

Jake and his family were faithful members of Immanuel Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He also enjoyed hunting with his friends and his sons, while supporting his sons and daughters and grandchildren throughout their years of athletics and other activities. Jake always supported his family with unconditional love and devotion.

Jake was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lula Mae Hail Davis. He is survived by son Ernie Davis and his wife Louise, of Cotulla, Texas; son Jerry Davis and his wife Ann, of Odessa, Texas; son Jimmy Davis and his wife Darlene, of Hamlin, Texas; daughter Brenda and her husband Darrell Joy, of Haskell, Texas; and daughter JoAnn and her husband Allan Lawhorn, of Stapleton, Alabama. He is also survived by 14 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren, and many nephew and nieces.

A reception and Luncheon for family and friends will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, October 29, at View Baptist Church, 250 Boynton Rd, Abilene, Texas. Graveside Service will be held following, at 2:00 p.m. Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas with Allan Lawhorn officiating. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home.
