Obituary for James E. Harrell James (Jimmy, Jaime) Edward Harrell, 63 left us for a better place Wednesday morning while sleeping. A few years of heart disease complicated by failing liver and kidneys lead to him going away from us and to the arms of his Lord. Our loss but his gain!

Born and raised in New Haven James showed an early talent for music far beyond his years. At a very young age he played with some nationally known musical groups as well as with extremely talented local musicians. Music came so easily to him.

R & B and later Gospel music flowed from him like water in a river. A kind and gentle man. Unfortunately for James his talent often collided with the seedier distractions of life.

As James has said “What should have been the happiest time of my life became a nightmare of travelling, partying and drugs. Especially the drugs. Many times I lost my freedom (both physically and spiritually) and lost my family as I gave in to the empty promises of drugs and addiction”.

Fortunately in his later years James became more like Lazarus – a dead man given his life back. Jesus spoke to James. Called him out of his tomb.

Drugs became a past memory. God cleaned him up and like Lazarus told him to LIVE AGAIN! Live again he did performing and writing some of the best Gospel music around and amazing those who knew a different James.

He was dead but he is not dead any longer! A celebration of James’s life will be held Friday (June 29, 2018) 7 PM at the Miracle Temple Church of God, 1382 Dixwell Ave Hamden CT. Please call (203) 248-0857 for details.
