Obituary for Barbara L. Berntson Barbara L. Berntson, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 19, 2018. Born on October 2, 1929, she was the daughter of Lennart and Elsie (Young) Berntson. Barbara was a lifelong New Britain resident, graduating New Britain High School Class of 1946.

She worked for Southern New England Telephone Company for 38 years, retiring in 1985. Barbara was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, and was very active serving on the churches Board of Education and the Fellowship Club. She also was a member of the New Britain Musical Club where she served as Recording Secretary for many years.

She belonged to the Greater New Britain Opera Association and the Telephone Pioneers. She was also a charter member of the Scandinavian Cultural Society of Greater Hartford. She is survived by her special family, her cousin Peter Young and his wife Judi of Branford, CT; their daughters Beth Young of Hamden and Kristin Young of New York City; her cousins Bruce Young of Fort Myers, FL, David Meigs of Newington, Dr. Robert Meigs of Cleveland Heights, OH, Eleanor Bengtson of Newington and Ann French of Rocky Hill.

Funeral services are 11AM Tuesday July 24, 2018 at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 99 Franklin Square, New Britain. Burial will follow immediately following services in Fairview Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CT Baptist Homes, 292 Thorpe Ave. Meriden, CT 06450. The Carlson Funeral Home, New Britain, is assisting the family with arrangements.
