Obituary for Farida Shamou Farida Shamou, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 8, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Gewargis Adam Youmara and came to the U.S. with her husband in 1978 from Baghdad, Iraq. She resided in New Britain and was an active member of St. Thomas Assyrian Church of the East.

Farida is remembered for her exceptional cooking and baking skills and takes with her many tasty Assyrian and Middle Eastern recipes. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and traveling. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Stephen) Callen; daughter, Madlein (Gerald) Abruscato; son, Adam (Kathy) Youmara; son, Tom (Rita) Youmara; daughter, Nahrain Youmara; daughter, Helen Youmara; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren as well as her brother, sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Raymon and Edmond, granddaughter, Rosalind, and two sisters, Zaripa and Gulizar, Funeral Services are Thursday (July 12, 2018) 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Assyrian Church of the East, 120 Cabot Street, New Britain, CT 06053. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery in New Britain.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas Assyrian Church of the East. The Carlson Funeral Home, New Britain is assisting with arrangements. Please share a memory or note of sympathy at www.
