Obituary for Shirley (Penney) Rathbun Shirley (Penney) Rathbun, 82, of New Britain, widow of Charles “Bill” Rathbun, passed away Wednesday (September 19, 2018) at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. Born in Boston, MA, Shirley has been a lifelong New Britain resident. She was employed at Woolworths in Berlin for 10 years and more recently Family Dollar in New Britain until retiring in 1998.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Britain. Surviving are four sons, Raymond Leidel of New Britain; David Leidel of Cheyenne, WY; Bryan Rathbun and his wife Lisa of Bristol; and James Rathbun and his wife Shelley of Rochester, NH; two daughters, Brenda Stedman and her husband Wayne of Berlin; and Tami Wiley and her husband Ricky of New Britain; a sister, Helen Splendore of Manchester, NH; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Besides her husband Charles, she was predeceased by 5 brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services are Tuesday 10 AM at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 147 West Main street, New Britain. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Monday 5 to 8 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain.
