Obituary for Elizabeth (Haworth) Strand Elizabeth “Betsy” H. (Haworth) Strand, 72, of Farmington, wife of William “Bill” J. Strand, passed away Tuesday (September 18, 2018) at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late George Raymond “Ray” Haworth and Marion (Bronson) Haworth, she lived in Farmington most of her life. A graduate of Farmington High School, class of 1964, Betsy was an Executive Secretary at the Hartford Insurance Group before marrying Bill.

Betsy was a full time mother raising her three daughters. They were the focus of her life. She later developed an extremely special relationship and helped raise her granddaughter, Arianna.

In the second year of their marriage, she and Bill started vacationing at Clinton Beach, and continued vacationing there for over 13 years. They also vacationed in New Brunswick, Canada for many years, and later built a second home there in 2009. Betsy was a longtime member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Farmington and was an avid UConn Men’s and Women’s Basketball fan.

An excellent cook, Betsy loved baking, carving pumpkins with her daughter Christine and granddaughter Arianna and loved hosting family holiday events. She also enjoyed bowling in the Country Club of Farmington’s Bowling League. Besides her husband Bill, she leaves three daughters, Laurie Strand of Bristol; Christine Strand and Lynn Strand, both of Farmington; her beloved granddaughter, Arianna Strand of Bristol; a sister, Barbara Cyr and her husband Martin of Shelton; a sister-in-law, Elaine Haworth of Burlington; her dear friend, Judy Buxton of Newry, Maine; several nieces and nephews.

She also leaves behind her two special English Springer Spaniels, Shamus and Sarah. Betsy was predeceased by a brother, Donald Haworth. A graveside service will be held Saturday September 22, 2018 at 11 AM in Riverside Cemetery 160 Garden Street, Farmington, CT 06032.

There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford, CT 06108. Betsy’s family would like to extend special thanks to the Intensive Care Unit at HOCC (NBGH) and the Hospital For Special Care for their excellent services during her final illness.
