Rhinebeck – James E. Hayden, 91, passed away January 24, 2018 at his home in Rhinebeck. Jim was a longtime Rhinebeck resident having moved there from New City, NY, in 1988. He was born August 25, 1926 in Brooklyn to William and Charlotte Hayden.

He graduated from St. John’s University with a bachelor degree in engineering. For 35 years he worked for the New York City Police Department Harbor Unit. After moving to Rhinebeck he was a volunteer tax preparer for residents of Dutchess County.

Jim served in the US Army from 1944-1946 and was a member of American Legion Post #429. He was predeceased by his wife Irene M. (Ervin) Hayden. He is survived by his three sons, Edward, John and Walter and three grandsons.

He was predeceased by his six brothers and one sister. Calling hours are Saturday, October 6th, 10 AM to 12 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Military Honors will be presented at 12 PM.
