James Edwin Bryant, Sr., 74, of Ogden, Ill. , went to be with the Lord at 4:35 p.m. July 13, 2018, at OSF HealthCare in Danville, Ill. , with his family by his side.

James was born the son of Harvey L. Bryant and Ethel Middlemas Bryant on December 18, 1943. He married Georgette James in 1966. They had two children, a son, James Edwin (Toni) Bryant Jr. of Westville, and a daughter, Jennifer Lynn (Eddie) Heidrick of Bismarck.

He later married Karen Sue Estock in 1982. They had one son, Adam Lee Bryant. James’ wife and all three children survive, as well as six grandchildren, Erica (Tyler) Hall, Trey Michael Bryant, Joshua Heidrick, Kayla Heidrick, Kalyssa Englemann and Kaizyn Bryant; and one great-grandchild, Bryer Hall.

James also is survived by brothers Harvey (Sue) Bryant of Danville, Dale (Sue) Bryant of Noblesville, Ind. , Glen (Dona) Bryant of Indianapolis, Philip (Gail) Bryant of Danville, and Roy (Lorrie) Bryant of Pittsboro, Ind. ; sisters, Marilyn (Doan) Marlatt of Newtown, Ind.

, and Barbara Bryant Mitchell of Danville, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack (Linda) Bryant; and two sisters, Beverly (Jack) Beresford and Betty Lou (Robert) Howell. James worked for the former CE&I, Louisville & Nashville Railroad, Seaboard System Railroad and the current CSX Railroad in Danville for 43 years as a brakeman, switchman and yardmaster.

He retired in 2004. He loved his family, NASCAR and was a huge, diehard Cubs fan. In his life, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, landscaping and coaching baseball.

He was fortunate to be able to see a lifelong dream fulfilled when he watched his beloved Cubs win the 2016 World Series. James will be deeply missed by his many friends and family who knew and loved him. He will be cremated at Rortvedt Funeral Services & Crematory in Tilton, Ill.

Per his request, there will be no visitation or funeral services.
