James’ Obituary James R. Peterson, 90 of Groton passed away January 6, 2018 in his home. He was born in Picayune, Mississippi June 7, 1928. There he joined the US Navy and became a Naval Seabee serving in Guam and the Sub Base in New London.

While stationed in New London he met and married his wife Marguerite Norwood, who preceded him in death. Together having a son, James R. Peterson Jr. who married Cherylene who was his beloved daughter-in-law, also preceding him in death. After his Naval service James also served in the US Coast Guard for some time.

He then went on to work at Electric Boat for 20 years, retiring and then moving to Maine and working several more years in various shipyards before returning to Connecticut. To friends James, “Jim”, or “Jimmy” will be remembered as a hardworking, generous, kind hearted man, who always had a smile on his face and brought the same to others. Survived by his son James R Peterson Jr, his grandson Andrew Peterson and his wife Crystal, his grandson Eric Peterson and his fiancé Heather, great grandchildren; Kara Peterson, Jacob Peterson, Libby Peterson, Arianna Peterson, Madalyn Beebe and her husband Michael, and his great-great grandchild Layla Beebe.

Whether it was “Pop”, “Grampy”, or “Gramps” the family is forever blessed to have loved and been loved by a man who marched to the beat of his own drum. A man who brought so much joy and laughter and expected nothing in return. Though we all will miss you, you have left all of our hearts filled with a lifetime of love and memories.

A private gathering will be held to celebrate his life .
