Lewis, James W. of House Springs, Missouri was born April 7, 1923 in Leasburg, Missouri to Roy and Viola (nee Magruder) Lewis and entered into rest Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the age of 96 years, 1 months, and 12 days. He is preceded in death by his parents, two children, Kenneth Lewis and Neil (Jane) Lewis, seven siblings, Harold L. Lewis, Algia A. Vella, Zella C. Townsend, Golden E. McKee, Juanita M. Bouse, Bessie A. Vanle and Viola M. Jensen. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Laura B. (nee Jaycox) Lewis, one (1) daughter-in-law, Doris Jean Lewis, five (5) grandchildren, Jerrod K. (Christina) Lewis, Rebekah E. Wright, Heather J. Lewis, Matthew J. (Megan) Lewis and James P. Lewis, eight (8) great-grandchildren, Brandon Schmiedeke, Abby Schmiedeke, Madilyn H. Lewis, Isaac Lewis, Levi Lewis, Eden Lewis, Cade Lewis and Arabelle Lewis, and many other family and friends.

James proudly served his country for three and a half years in the United States Army during World War II. He was Staff Sargent in the 42nd Rainbow Division. He received several medals including two Bronze Stars.

James was wounded but he never received the Purple Heart Medal. He was a member of the American Legion for twenty-seven years, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Missouri Sheriff’s Association and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers and Communication Workers of America. James was saved at the age of twenty and was a member at Fellowship Baptist Church of High Ridge, Missouri.

He loved to sing and enjoyed his church family. James was very devoted to his family. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary 6300 Hwy 30 Cedar Hill, Missouri 63016. Service Friday, May 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary. Interment at Cross Roads Cemetery in Leasburg, Missouri.
