James’ Obituary Chilhowie, VA James W. Cook age 88, passed away on Thursday January 31, 2019 at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, VA. Jim was born in Keystone, WV to the late Fred & Essie Blevins Cook. He is also preceded in death by his wife Mary Tuell Cook; his grandson James Luke Teaters; sisters Betty Jo Hawks & Lucille Blevins; brother Willie Cook; nephews Doug Cook & Randy Cook; and niece Jane Blevins Powell.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict. Later he retired from Marion Correctional Treatment Center as a LPN. After retirement, he worked at Valley Health Care Center and at Loves Mill Convenience Station.

Jim was a member at Macedonia Baptist Church. He loved gardening and old trucks and cars. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren whom he was so proud of.

Surviving are daughters and their families Donna & Lee Powers, and Cathy & Joe Cregger; grandchildren & great grandchildren Brian, Debbie, & Logan Teaters, Lisa & Will Shuler, Lauryn & Laila Jackson, Melissa, George, Abby Jo, Jacob, Piper, Riley Bailey, Eric, Laurie, Josie, & Silas Cregger; Luke’s sons Levi & Lance Teaters; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special Thanks to his caretakers at Valley Health Care, especially his CNA’s and Sherry Brown, LPN. Honoring his wishes there will be no visitation.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday February 2, 2019 at Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Eller officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St Jude’s Children Hospital or to Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
