The daughter of James and Maude Nighswonger, she was born February 12, 1934 in Bloomington, Illinois. She was the sister of James Nighswonger of Corona, California.

She grew up in Normal, Illinois and lived there for 26 years before moving to Colorado in the early 1960s. At age 17, she married Ralph Berglund, with whom she had 4 children – Vicki Keith, Gary Berglund, Sue Parker and Dotti Frisinger. She had 9 grandchildren: James and Matthew Keith; Tammy, Greg, and Amber Berglund; Crystal and Jessica Parker; and Katja and Kyla Frisinger.

She had 12 great-grandchildren: Scarlett, Josephine, Penelope, and Simon Keith; Nehemiah, Camiel, and Urijah Perez; Michael and Shelby Smith, Taylor Hancock; Kyle and Cora Foos and had another grandchild due in June. She had one great-great grandchild, Aiden Smith. She married George Snyder in October of 1978 and spent many happy years with him, living first in Thornton, Colorado and then Clifton, Colorado.

They enjoyed cooking and baking together, travelling in their motorhome, and socializing with friends from Clifton Christian Church. After marrying George, Janet took painting classes and began painting mostly land and seascapes; she won several blue ribbons for them at the Mesa County Fair. After George passed, she moved to Loveland, Colorado to be closer to family.

Besides her family who loved her dearly, she will be missed by many others, such as nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Members of the Parker family adopted her and will cherish memories of the many joyous times shared with her. The many people who worked for her at the Thornton Winchell’s Donut House, which she ran for several years, will never forget her.

She always viewed her employees like family and everyone said how fun it was to work for her. The members of all of her church families through the years – First Baptist Church of Thornton, Clifton Christian Church, and Hope Baptist Church – look forward to seeing her again in Heaven. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, January 16 at Hope Baptist Church, 5688 McWhinney Blvd, Loveland, CO 80538 (in the Outlet Mall next to Nike).

Her cremains will be interred next to George in Grand Junction, Colorado some time this summer; details for this service are yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Kulpahar Kids Home and School (kulpaharkidshomeschool.org/) or St. Jude’s Hospital or any other charitable organization you support.
