Obituary for Jean Chevalier Taylor Funeral services for Jean Chevalier Taylor, 85, of Keller, Texas, will be held 10 am, Friday June 15, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1122 Pine Street, Gilmer, Texas, with Bishop Tim Miller presiding. Burial will follow in Kelsey Cemetery under the direction of McWhorter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Thursday, June 14th at McWhorter Funeral Home.
Jean was born Oct. 6, 1932, in Kelsey, Texas, to Will and Sarah Chevalier, the 12th of 13 children. She died June 10 at Avalon Memory Care of Keller after a lengthy illness.
Jean was raised in Kelsey, an LDS community near Gilmer, Texas. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a full-time local missionary in the Texas-Louisiana Mission at the age of 19, and she served in many positions in the church throughout her lifetime. Her faith never wavered.
She married A D Taylor on Nov. 23, 1955, in her mother’s home in Kelsey, and her world revolved around her family. They spent most of their married life in Mt.
Pleasant, Texas. Jean worked for a variety of organizations in her lifetime, including the FBI and Red River Army Depot. She worked at the refinery in Mt.
Pleasant for many years, and after the refinery closed, she worked for Titus County more than 25 years, serving with several county judges. A D preceded her in death on June 15, 2017, and also waiting to greet her were her parents and several siblings: Virgie Bender, Bernard Chevalier, Foy Chevalier, Oni Bryant, Esther Payne; Waymond Chevalier, Mildred Chevalier, Viola Barksdale, Wanda Gibson and Faynell Green. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Randy (Teri) Taylor of Klamath Falls, Oregon; her daughter, Jan Taylor of Fort Worth, Texas; her brother, Azell (Patricia) Chevalier of Kelsey, Texas; her sister, Thurza Blackshear of Carriere, Mississippi; and a brother-in-law, Wesley (Doretta) Taylor of Nacogdoches, Texas.
Other survivors include her grandchildren: Erica (Tom) Jackman of Salem, Oregon; Kara Taylor of Denver, Colorado; Chase (Makay) Taylor of Eagle Mountain, Utah; Carly Taylor and Kelly (Jordan) Zabriskie, all of Salt Lake City; Shania Leeper-Blue of Klamath Falls, Oregon; and three great-grandchildren: Harper, Jonah and August Jackman. In addition, Jean is survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
