Jean Lindsay Bevans August 28, 1926 – January 09, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook Grand-daughter of an Army surgeon, and daughter of an Army officer, Jean Lindsay Bevans was born August 28, 1926, in Thomasville, Georgia, where her grandfather was the first director of a new hospital. Seven decades later, they were glad to receive Jeannie’s donation of her baby book which mostly chronicled the hospital’s early history. After her father died in 1938 while stationed in the Philippines, Jeannie, her two older sisters, and mother returned to the US, moving in with family in Washington DC.

Jeannie attended high school at the National Cathedral for Girls, then graduated from the College of William and Mary where she belonged to Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. An English major, Jeannie was an avid reader and an interesting conversationalist with a keen wit. She loved to travel-Japan, Europe, the Caribbean.

After she retired, Jeannie relocated to San Antonio, Texas, where she spent twenty-one happy years. She continued to volunteer extensively, the places reflecting her broad interests, and she cultivated a circle of dear friends. Jeannie spent the last four years of her life in the love and comfort of her niece’s home in central Virginia, where she died peacefully on January 9, 2019.

Jeannie is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and sisters and will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with all of them. Jeannie’s family thanks Rector Lisa Mason and Bishop Gary Lillibridge for agreeing to officiate at her graveside.
