Jeanne Drake Allen, a long-time resident of the Keowee Key Community, died peacefully on February 23rd, 2019, at home from a long illness. Born in 1931 in Washington, D.C., she graduated from Alfred Almond High School and then attended St. Lawrence University. Jeanne was a loving mother to 5 children.

She loved tennis, skiing, swimming, knitting, sewing, quilting, and walking her dogs along the Leisure Trail. Jeanne was a big advocate for rescue dogs. It seems that stray dogs would always find Jeanne.

Jeanne’s lifelong love of birds inspired her husband, Terry, to start a business after retirement called For The Birds. Together, they created new products to help backyard birders identify birds by their songs and they established a retail wild bird store for local residence. Jeanne had a wonderful smile that lit up a room and her laugh was contagious.

She is survived by her loving husband, Frederick (Terry) Tirrell Allen of 42 years, 5 children- Linda (Lani) Marciniak, Scott Rath, Luana Rath, Keone Weigl, Jay Rath, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A memorial service for a celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Mrs. Jeanne Drake Allen please visit our Sympathy Store.
