Obituary for Jeffrey A. Leonard Jeff Leonard, radio and television broadcaster, dies at 70. Jeffrey A. Leonard, known in the of broadcasting as “Jeff Leonard,” died in a Louisville hospital from squamous cell carcinoma of the ear. This is confirmed by his wife of 30 years, Mona, who was holding his hand at the time of his death.

He was 70. Jeff Leonard began his career as an on-air radio broadcaster in Providence, Rhode Island in the 1970s when he was hired by WMOD radio in Washington, D.C. Later he was the afternoon drive personality for NBC owned WKYS radio when it became the No. 1 station in the Washington market.

He was also the voice of NBC television in Washington. In 1989, he accepted a position as program director and morning drive personality WVEZ Radio in Louisville. Later he worked at iHeart Radio and for Louisville Public Media.

He retired full time in 2006 and began his voice over business, “Jeff Leonard Voices”. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville with high honors and is a U.S. Veteran. Mr. Leonard is survived by his wife, Mona Freeman Leonard; his son, Jared “Jack” A. Leonard; his mother-in-law, Ruth O. Freeman and his stepfather, Andre Vetos.
