Obituary for Michael J. Nichols The Honorable Michael J. Nichols, 74, of Louisville passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 16, 2018 with his family by his side. A kindly curmudgeon, history buff, avid student of human nature, acerbic social commentator, and reluctant veteran, Michael was a guiding and loving force for his children and many friends. He was born March 15th, 1944, in Chicago, IL, son of the late Kenneth Samuel Nichols and Helen Wehle Nichols.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University and his Juris Doctorate from the Louis Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. He served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration until his retirement. He is survived by his children, Krista Kane and Kelly Nichols (Katharine); six grandchildren, Healey Loeffler, Olivia Loeffler, Mariana Wilson, Frances Wilson, Ruby Wilson and Nora Nichols; his brother, Patrick Nichols (Susan) and a niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Zachary Nichols.

He leaves behind Jackson, his beloved Siamese cat. There will be a Celebration of His Life at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 20th at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “in St. Matthews”. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. His ashes will be interred at Hebron, Indiana, at the Nichols family grave.
