Jesse Dearl “JD’ Fagan, 94, of Lubbock, Texas formerly of Elk City, Oklahoma was born on August 21, 1923 in Paoli, Oklahoma to Jesse James and Ina May (Anderson) Fagan. He went to be with his heavenly Father on April 16, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas. JD was the oldest of six children.

He grew up in the Paoli and Elk City area. JD attended Merritt High School, worked on the family farm and always made time to play baseball for the high school. In 1944 he was drafted into the army… Read More » where he would do tours during World War II and in Germany.

He was classified as a Technician Fifth Grade when he was honorably discharged. His career in the army was memorable and very courageous and an article has been written about his army career. While on leave before being shipped over seas he met the love of his life, Ella Gertrude Caughron.

After being discharged he returned to Elk City where he married Ella on September 9, 1946. He and Ella moved to Westwood, California where he worked for a lumber company for a little over a year and then moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma City he worked at Wimpy Grocery Store but missed home, so it was not long before they moved back to Elk City, Oklahoma.

In Elk City he worked for Montgomery Wards and the Sooner Freight Lines. JD decided to go to work for Harvest Queen Mill in Plainview, Texas where they lived for twenty years until the mill shut down. They then decided to move to Fort Gibson Lake near Muskogee, Oklahoma where they owned and operate the “Country Store” for six hard years.

JD and Ella bought a beautiful home on the lake where JD enjoyed fishing. They had many family and friend gatherings and fish fries. JD worked for the Baptist Church Camp while living there.

They kept him busy as their handy man and landscaper. One thing about JD was he always enjoyed being outside, so this was the perfect job for him. JD finally decided it was time to move back home to be near his family so they up and moved back to Elk City, Oklahoma.

They lived in Elk City for eight years then made their last move to Lubbock, Texas to be near their son, Ron. You never went to their beautiful house that you did not find JD on the back porch. He spent most of his day there.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 19, 2018 at United Methodist Church in Elk City, Oklahoma. Rev. Terry Koehn will officiate.

Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma. Cherishing his memories are his wife of seventy-one years, Ella of Lubbock, Texas; two sons, Ron Fagan and his wife, Darla of Lubbock, Texas, Brian Fagan and his wife, Cora of Gallatin, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister, Roxie Roberts of Portland, Oregon.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Ina; two brothers, Clifford Fagan and Orville “Bud” Fagan; two sisters, Nona Martin and Freda Marshall.
