Jim M. Hurst, 68, of Hermann, MO, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018 at his home. Jim was born in Washington, Missouri on October 8, 1949, a son of the late Leroy & Elizabeth (Dowling) Hurst. He was the husband of Cathy (Mecum) Hurst.

They were united in marriage on January 22, 1988 in Columbia, Missouri. Cathy survives him at the home. Jim is also survived by five children, Jenna Baynes & husband Jason, of Hermann; Jeff Hurst, of Raleigh, North Carolina; Michelle Britt & husband Lyon, of Raleigh, North Carolina; Gary Newton & wife Beth, of Columbia, Missouri; and Shellie Newton, of Columbia, Missouri; by six grandchildren, Danielle Ryan & husband Adam, Samantha, Ben, & Nick Newton, Sydney Britt, and Annie Baynes, and by one great granddaughter, Brileigh Ryan.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the Church of the Risen Savior Rhineland, Missouri, the American Legion Post 147 in Rhineland, and was a board member of the Peoples Savings Bank. Jim worked his whole career for the Missouri Department of Veterans Affairs as a supervisor, until his retirement.

He was also a farmer, which he was very proud of. Jim was a very kind man and well known for making his home made wine. He was a family man, loved spending time with his family and also gathering with friends.

He enjoyed going camping, fishing, hiking, going on float trips and taking his dogs along for a ride in his truck. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 25th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Risen Savior, Rhineland, with Rev.

Monsignor Gregory Higley officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Rhineland, Missouri. Memorials may be given to Church of the Risen Savior or American Legion Post 147, Rhineland.
