Obituary for Joan Margaret Books Joan Margaret Books, 83, formerly of Cleona died Saturday, November 10, 2018, in Londonderry Village, Palmyra. She was the wife of Elmer Light Books with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage. Born in Lebanon on March 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Mabel Raisbeck Fedder.
She was a medical secretary and office manager for Dr. Harold Engle of Palmyra for over 27 years and then worked for Lebanon Valley Family Medicine, Inc for 10 years as a medical transcriptionist. Joan was a 1953 graduate of South Lebanon High School, a member of Fairland Brethren in Christ Church, Cleona where she was a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir, and attended the Ladies Bible Study Class. She was also a member of the Lebanon Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Cleona Women’s Club, and the Palm Squares Dancing Club.
She enjoyed gardening, painting, reading, playing cards with friends, and spending time with her family. Surviving in addition to her husband is a son Elmer L. Books, Jr. of Phoenixville and a daughter Shirley L. wife of Robert L. Dailey of Lebanon. Her five grandchildren include Jacob D. Books, Sophia M. Books, Robert J. husband of Jaclyn B. Dailey, Jennifer L. wife of Jeremy J. Boehmer, Marie A. wife of Kent F. Gough.
Her six great grandchildren include, Florence V. Dailey, Casey H. and Josh R. Boehmer, and Lincoln O. , Robert B. and Tyler M. Gough. Her sister Eunice Reist lives in South Lebanon. She was preceded in death by her twin sister Jean Breiner.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Fairland Brethren in Christ Church, 529 W. Penn Avenue, Cleona, PA 17042. Interment will be in Grand View Memorial Park, Annville. A viewing will be held on Friday from 10-11 AM prior to the service.
