Obituary for Joan P. Ouellette Hampton – Joan P. Ouellette, 70, of Hampton, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at her home after a five year struggle with chronic idiopathic pneumonitis. She was born July 28, 1947 in Manhattan, NY the daughter of Eileen (McGovern) McKenna of Hampton and the late John P. McKenna. Joan graduated from Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia, NY and St. Francis School of Nursing in Poughkeepsie, NY as a registered nurse.
She served in many aspects of healthcare over the years as a visiting, hospice and school nurse. She retired in 2013 from New Generation, a safe family-oriented shelter for homeless pregnant women, their babies and children after 19 years of service. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish serving as a CCD instructor as well as a Eucharistic minister.
In 2013 Arch Diocese of Manchester Bishop Peter A. Libasci presented the Saint Martin de Porres award that recognized Joan as an individual who exemplified the virtues of Catholic healthcare as a healthcare professional. Joan was a longtime summer and later year round resident of Hampton and was an avid North Beach wall walker. On July 13th she would have shared 49 years of marriage with her husband Bernard L. “Bernie” Ouellette.
In addition to her husband and mother, family members include three daughters, Wendy Cooper and her husband James of Hampton, Aimee Young and her husband Matthew of Madbury, Katie Joyce and her husband Patrick of Epping, five grandchildren, Meghan and Grace Cooper, Lucien Young, Andrew and Regina Joyce and her brother, John McKenna and his wife Tiffany of Hampton. Visiting hours will be from 2-5 P.M. Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. Monday, July 16, 2018 at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. After cremation private interment will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Generation P.O.
