Obituary of Joann Thulen Joann E. Thulen, 85, of Clermont, NY, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at her home. Born on March 18, 1933, in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Prostowich) Nanke. Joann married Charles A. Thulen on July 24, 1954 in Poquonock, CT and Charles predeceased her on September 5, 2009.

In addition to raising her family, Joann was active in her community. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish- Church of the Resurrection in Germantown, former parishioner, volunteer, trustee, and a member of the Altar Guild of St. Sylvia’s Church in Tivoli, she taught religious education at St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook, and a founding member of St. Marin de Porres Church in Poughkeepsie. Joann also volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout leader.

She is survived by her children, Mary (Dan) Howard of Clermont, NY, Beth Anne (Trevor) Smith of Schuylerville, NY, and Michael (fiancé:Madeline Iannazone) Thulen of Brick, NJ; her grandchildren, Katherine LeVine of Arlington, MA, Charles LeVine of Schuylerville, NY, Michael (Jennifer) Thulen, Jr of Point Pleasant, NJ, Kelly Thulen of Howell, NJ, and Patrick Thulen of Portland, OR; along with extended family and friends. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 5 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on Monday, September 17th, 2018 at Holy Trinity Parish-Church of the Resurrection in Germantown, NY.

Fr Winston Bath will officiate. Burial will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Broad Brook, CT. Memorial donations may be made in Joann’s memory to Community Hospice of Columbia-Greene, 47 Liberty St., Catskill, NY 12414 or to National Shrine of the Devine Mercy c/o: The Marians of the Immaculate Conception, Eden Hill, Stockbridge, MA 01263.
