Obituary of Harry Scarth Harry R. Scarth, Sr, 92, of Port Ewen, NY and a former Red Hook resident, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at his home. Born on June 29, 1926, in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late William and Marian (Kinney) Scarth. Harry married Florence Secor, the love of his life, on March 8, 1947 in Rhinebeck, NY.

Florence predeceased him on March 26, 2011. For over 20 years and until his retirement recently, Harry worked as the head of maintenance with Walmart in Kingston. Previously he worked at Schatz Federal Bearing in Poughkeepsie for 23 years and Contel Telephone Company for 13 years.

Harry served as the Village of Red Hook Mayor form 1976 to 1985. He was the Vice President of the Dutchess County Mayors Association, Past President of the Red Hook Businessman Association, and he was a past member of the Rhinecliff Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He is survived by his children, Mary Helen Rifenburgh of Port Ewen, NY, Patricia Ann Nettleton of Kingston, NY, Barbara Jean Murphy of Port Ewen, NY, and Harry R. Scarth, Jr. of Clinton Corners, NY; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; and his beloved friend- Maggie Mae.

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Monday, October 29th, 2018 from 11 AM – 1 PM. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Fred C. Cartier officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook will be private.

Memorial donations may be made in Harry’s memory to Hudson Valley Hospice, 374 Violet Ave. , Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or to the American Heart Association, 301 Manchester Rd. Suite 105, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook, NY.
