Obituary for Joe Donnelly INDIANAPOLIS – Joe Donnelly, age 71, of Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Elmcroft of Fort Harrison. He was born on November 25, 1946 in New Albany as the son of John Patrick and Emma Jean (Vinson) Donnelly. Joe graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1965 and attended officers training school at Fort Benning, GA.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded a bronze star. He was a cook and bar tender for many years at various restaurants and bars in Indianapolis. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post #0034 and VFW Post #7119 both of Indianapolis.

He was a Disabled American Veteran and member of the Wounded Warriors. He loved his pet dogs, especially Maggie. Joe is survived by his siblings, Reverend Monsignor James Donnelly of Bradenton, FL, Jeananne (Darryl) Cruser of Greensburg, IN, and Janet (Ronald) Johnson of Greenfield; sister-in-law, Mary Donnelly of Indianapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Donnelly; and brother, John Patrick Donnelly. A celebration gathering will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140.

A celebration of Joe’s life will take place immediately following the gathering at 7:00 p.m. Military rites will be presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Hancock County Humane Society, 214 E. Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
