Obituary for John A. Stargu John A. Stargu, 94, husband of the late Mary (Covras) Stargu, died on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Masonicare after a brief illness. Born in Clayton, NJ on February 29, 1924, he was the son of the late George and Despina (Moshovos) Stargu and graduated from Bloomfield High School. Mr. Stargu was employed by Danaher Ford and M&E Ford.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Air Force as Top Gun. His plane was a B 24 Bomber and was named “The Stork”. He was a member of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New Britain.

He was also a member of the choir and was a past President of the Meriden AHEPA. He is survived by his daughter, Despina Simon and her husband Robert; two sons, Taki Stargu and his wife Diane and Nick Stargu; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three nieces and four nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Apessos; a sister-in-law, Irene Katechis and a brother-in-law, George Katechis. The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main Street, New Britain. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church.

Burial with military honors will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden on Wednesday, April 11th from 4 to 7 p.m. A Trisagion Service will be held at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 301 West Main Street, New Britain, CT 06052 or to Masonicare, 22 Masonic Avenue, Wallingford, CT 06492.
