John Calvin Eudaley, age 93 passed away peacefully Saturday April 28, 2018 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, IA. A private family service will be held at a later date. John was born on November 10, 1924 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, son of Martin and Mattie (Boxx) Eudaley.

He served in the Army during WW2 as a Motor Transportation NCO, was a qualified rifle expert, received a good conduct medal, victory ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, EAMET Ribbon, APT Ribbon, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. John received his honorably discharged after 3 years of service and moved to Dubuque in 1946. He worked at a Dubuque sawmill, a local chemical plant, and owned and operated a tavern on the north end of Dubuque.

John married Janann (Jan) Apel and they lived on Edith Street for many years. John and Jan moved to Dyersville in 1966. John, along with his son Rick, started J&R Plumbing and Heating in Dyersville.

John later retired and moved to Guttenberg to his beloved property on the Mississippi River. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and renovating homes. John was blessed with a handsome smile and a witty sense of humor.

He never lost his love of laughter and was the King of one-liners. John and Jan spent 73 years together. He is survived by his wife Jan Eudaley of Dubuque, IA; a son Rick Eudaley (Deb Osterhaus) Peosta, IA; two granddaughters, Jodi (Doug) Klostermann, Dyersville, IA; and Wendy (Brent) Wright, Cedar Falls, IA.

Four great grandchildren Cole Klostermann, Conner Klostermann, Brittni Wright, and Madison Wright. A sister Jane (Allen) Fitzgibbons of Dubuque, IA and many nieces and nephews. He is also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and four sisters.

Memorials can be sent to Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Dubuque, Iowa 52003. Donations will be used to create a memorial brick in John’s honor to be displayed at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Dubuque, IA. The Family would like to thank Hospice, the Nurses and Staff at Stonehill Care Center, and everyone at Assisi Village who were so wonderful in caring for John.
