Ristau, 77, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 18, 2019 at Froedtert South Kenosha Medical Center Campus. He was born on May 9, 1941 to the late Edward and Frieda (Stelzer) Ristau in Chicago, IL. John entered the US Air Force in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1963.

On March 23, 1965 he entered the US Coast Guard. He served during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged on February 14, 1969. John served on the ship Campbell and Owasco.

John was a member of the Navy Club Ship 40 and volunteered for the 4th of July parades over the years. He was proud of being in the military. John enjoyed going to the Coast Guard reunions.

In 1971 he married Su Yon Cho in Chicago. They later divorced. John was a hard-working man and was a jack-of-all-trades.

In the late ’80s to early 90’s he volunteered with the Somers Fire Department and also volunteered at the voting polls and lived life to the fullest. John is survived by his children Edward Ristau and Lisa (Kevin) Tohtz. He is preceded in death by a brother Richard.

Funeral Services for John will be held on Thursday, January 31st at 1:00 p.m. at the Bruch Funeral Home. Full Military Honors will follow. Inurnment will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. (Noon) until the time of service.
